Our Services

At Rittenhouse Spine & Wellness Center, we understand your pain and frustration with ongoing health problems.

Our patients have had much success eliminating back pain with hands-on spinal manipulation combined with other treatments, since proper alignment of the spine and other extremity regions will enable the body to help heal and restore areas of chronic pain and discomfort.

The services that we offer both help you to understand your pain and what the cause of it is as well as develop a plan to enable the body to begin healing.

The services we offer include:

CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT: The most critical component of the care we provide, a chiropractic adjustment helps to correct misalignment within the spinal joints and take pressure off of the joint and surrounding soft tissue structures. It also helps to remove the irritation and interference of the nerves that sit in between the joint spaces, freeing up the nervous system to function at its optimum level.

ON-SITE X-RAY: In the past, private practices like Rittenhouse Spine & Wellness were not able to benefit from the best x-ray technology. Now, we are proud to be able to offer such diagnostic technology to you. X-Rays are not only important for diagnostic reasons but also to help the doctor to determine where corrections need to be made. One of the most important benefits that comes with this technology is our increased ability to communicate with you.

Communication between the doctor and the patient is one of the best ways to facilitate your recovery, since understanding your injury makes you all the more likely to avoid a similar injury in the future.

With the instant digital imaging, we can immediately show you your x-ray, highlight the problem in a way you can understand, and even give you a copy to view on your own computer.

MANUAL THERAPY: Manual therapy involves the physical manipulation of soft tissue, joints and—most importantly—the spine. One kind of manual therapy—trigger-point therapy—recognizes that the site of the pain might not be where the root cause of the pain lies. For example, a muscle knot or other sensitive spot might be a trigger point that causes pain elsewhere in the body, which might appear to have nothing to do with the trigger point. The knowledgeable chiropractor understands the relationship between different areas of the body, and understands that by treating the trigger point, the source of the pain, which lies somewhere else, can be relieved.

THERAPEUTIC AND FUNCTIONAL EXERCISE: A program of therapeutic exercise is often designed for each patient on an individual basis to restore muscle strength and support, correct misaligned posture, and to reestablish endurance. Functional exercises are designed to help restore proper postural tone and stability around the corrections that have been made to the joint and surrounding soft tissue structures.

NUTRITION/SUPPLEMENTATION: Dr. Rittenhouse can suggest the proper nutrition and supplementation program to help you to restore and/or support your body’s optimal functioning and overall health. In Chiropractic, we can utilize whole food supplements to help aid in healing the areas of injury or concern.

PERCUSSIVE THERAPY: Throughout your day, lactic acid tends to build up in your muscles. This can happen either as a result of exercise, or from lengthy periods of immobility. This build-up is the cause of the stiff or aching feeling you get after a workout or after hours in your uncomfortable office chair. Massage is a good way to flush this lactic acid out of your system and restore comfort to your musculature.

In percussion therapy, a special machine is applied to your back to administer a rapid series of taps to your problem areas. The taps send high-frequency vibrations deep into your tissues where the toxic build-up has occurred. Capillaries and lymph nodes are stimulated and the acids are purged from your system. In turn, as your blood starts flowing again, your body’s natural pain-relieving endorphins are circulated.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE: Myofascial release (MFR) therapy focuses on releasing muscular shortness and tightness, generally through gentle application of pressure or sustained low load stretch to the affected area. Many patients seek myofascial treatment after losing flexibility or function following an injury or if experiencing ongoing back, shoulder, hip, or pain in any area containing soft tissue. MFR therapy stretches and loosens the fascia so that it and other contiguous structures can move more freely, and the patient’s motion is restored.

MUSCLE STIM THERAPY: This is a technique that uses electrical currents to stimulate nerves that innervate muscles and tendons that have been affected by injury or traumas. The muscles will then contract from stimulation and exhaust them reducing spasm and pain.

NEUROMUSCULAR RE-EDUCATION: Neuromuscular Re-education is a therapeutic technique that is used to improve balance, coordination, posture, kinesthetic sense and proprioception (the sense of the relative position of neighboring parts of the body and the amount of effort being employed in movement). These normal patterns of movement can be disrupted by injuries or may be impaired in people with certain medical conditions.  The general aim of Neuromuscular Re-education is to re-establish normal patterns of movement in injured people and disabled people by practicing a variety of exercises.

TRACTION: Chiropractic traction is a widely used treatment for LOW BACK PAIN. By applying force to the patient’s spine through body weight, weights, and/or pulleys, a chiropractor is able to gently stretch the spine and draw apart the vertebrae.

FLEXION/DISTRACTION: Dr. Rittenhouse uses a special flexion/distraction technique to help take pressure off of and decompress the lumbar discs while properly stretching out tight ligamentous structures around the lumbar joints.
